SYNOPSIS: (From Goodreads)

Hazel is given a one-two punch when she’s forced to move out of her Upper East Side apartment and is given a final warning from her publisher.

If she doesn’t turn in a book by her next deadline, they’re cutting her loose.

Hazel rashly decides to leave what’s left of her city life behind and impulse buys a house in rural Pennsylvania sight unseen. How better to entertain the loyal readers she still has and rediscover her writing mojo than immersing herself in small-town life?

Too bad this town looks to be on its last legs. At least she’s finding swoon-worthy inspiration from her hot, grumpy contractor Cam and his animal-rescuing, community-involved family. It’s all just research. What could go wrong?

REVIEW:

Well even with my best of intentions I was unable to keep up with the books in book club.  I felt like I was drowning in training at work and trying to keep up with things that way.  So I got a little behind with reading.  However, when this book came up as one to read, I knew I wanted to read it.  I have several books by this author on my TBR and thought what better way to get introduced to the author.  Spoiler: I did not keep up with the reading but I did complete the book.  I was excited to read it.

Hazel has kind of hit rock bottom.  She’s divorced, hit a road-block with her writing and is at the end of her multiple time extension with her publisher AND she realizes she has to move out of her apartment or she will be evicted.  She buys a house sight unseen from an online auction and sees the local contractor and gets inspired.  One thing leads to another, she gets her writing groove back with the help of a hunky contractor who gives her more than enough material for a new book.  She finds herself again and finds her happiness or at least she hopes.  Honestly, Hazel’s story spoke to me.  As a recently divorced mom of three, I felt like I was going to hit rock bottom.  I lost my happy and had for a long time.  Finding a new love has helped me get my spark and joy that had been stolen from me a long time ago.  I had a career that I was advancing and three amazing kids.  So I felt her story deep in my bones.

I can honestly say that I loved the author’s writing style. It is flowing and paints a picture that you can see with your mind’s eye. I am adding the other books I have by her to my ever growing list of books to read sooner rather than later.  Although honestly they are probably the perfect beach reads for me this summer.  Hazel’s story was hilarious, she got herself into some predicaments.  Although honestly the pontoon boat sinking did hit a funny bone for me.  It sealed the deal for Hazel and her dreams more than she knew.  She rallys a small town to stand on their own two feet.  She used her platform for good and stands tall when her dirty rotten ex-husband randomly shows up because he hears she is doing good. The way the brothers and the town stand behind her when he tries to take her down had me cheering.  You wanted to cheer for Hazel, she deserved everything that she wanted in her life. If you want a cute rom com then this is 100% it.  While there is spice its not over the top or very graphic.
